Gender + religious + ethnic discrimination

Georgia has been working to improve birth registration coverage but has yet to fully address the exclusion of ethnic minority groups. Georgia has made a number of efforts to fix the issue, including in 2003 simplifying the birth registration procedure and making it free. In 2008 Georgia rolled out an electronic system which required medical institutions to submit information on births. Late birth registration campaigns, supported by UNICEF and UNHCR, focused on inclusion of internally displaced children and discovered high numbers of of completely undocumented persons of Roma and ethnic Azeri heritage. Georgia has received recommendations from the CRC, CERD, and the UPR commending these efforts while encouraging the State party to address ongoing exclusion of the multiply marginalized.
