Administrative blockage for children of mixed status parents
For migrants in Morocco, both the legal and marital status of one or more parents remains an obstacle to registering the birth of a child. A 2013 civil society submission to the CMW noted that Moroccan women married to foreign men with irregular administrative status could not formalize the marriage, making it impossible to prove the filiation of the foreign parent. If Morocco were to remove legal barriers to marriage recognition for refugees and asylum seekers, as recommended in the 2017 UPR, that could ameliorate the situation.
