Migration enforcement within birth registration process

In the UK, as of 2016 health officials are required to report certain immigration matters and charge undocumented migrant women for health services. Confusion over exactly what information is required to be shared with authorities has created potential for breaches of confidentiality and increased risk for those with irregular status. Information shared by providers about healthcare visits has been used as part of immigration proceedings in some cases. This has led to asylum seekers and undocumented migrant women to avoid prenatal care or giving birth in hospitals, making it harder to obtain a birth certificate.
