Bangladesh
Marital status discrimination
In 2009, the CRC expressed concern that in Bangladesh lack of birth registration is a basis for discrimination and exclusion from access to social services. This is especially the case for children whose father (or both father and mother) are unknown, children born to single mothers, children born out of wedlock and refugee children. The committee recommended that Bangladesh take all necessary measures to accelerate free of charge birth registration for all children born within the national territory, including children whose father (or both father and mother) are unknown, children born to single mothers, children born out of wedlock and refugee children.
