Bangladesh
Legal gender discrimination
While Bangladesh reformed its Citizenship Act in 2009 to allow women to confer nationality to their children, it is unclear whether this reform applies retroactively. In the 2013 UPR cycle the CRC recommended that children with one parent who is a Bangladeshi national be recognized as Bangladeshi nationals. Bangladesh does not not allow women to confer citizenship on equal terms to a foreign spouse. In 2016, Bangladesh indicated in a reply to CEDAW that it had examined the issue of women passing nationality to foreign husbands, and a draft revision of the Citizenship Act had been prepared and was under review by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
