Barbados
Legal gender discrimination
Barbados’ nationality laws prevent women from passing their nationality to their children or spouse on an equal basis with men. Barbadian women are not able to confer their nationality if their children are born abroad or jointly adopted. In 2017, CEDAW issued a recommendation for Barbados to amend its Constitution to grant Barbadian women equal rights with men regarding the transmission of their nationality to their children or to their spouses of foreign nationality. Barbados received similar recommendations in both the 2013 and 2018 UPR.
