Religious discrimination
In India, Muslim and other ethnic minority populations have been made stateless by their discriminatory exclusion from the Citizenship Amendment Act (2019). Muslims living in Assam state, who have been subjected to the National Register of Citizens, and Rohingya refugees are particularly impacted. The CRC in 2014, Human Rights Committee in 2019, and UPR in 2017 have all issued relevant recommendations on eliminating religious, ethnic and/or caste discrimination in birth registration in India.
