Saint Kitts and Nevis
Hospital documentation practices
Hospitals in Nevis reportedly withhold birth certificates for children until the full cost of childbirth is paid. Citizens below 18 and over 62 have free healthcare access. While citizens do not have universal healthcare, residents do have access to government-subsidized healthcare at low costs. Healthcare costs for non-residents can be high, posing an obstacle to birth registration. The CRC (2025) recommended that Saint Kitts and Nevis abolish this requirement. The Committee also recommended ensuring that all children are properly registered at birth and have access to their birth certificate.
